How It Started…

Located in the suburbs of Detroit, Michigan, Khom Fai is the creation of brothers Chef Isaiah Sonjeow and Chris Sonjeow. The idea was to carry on the traditions, recipes and legacy of their father Yongyuth Sonjeow, who has been in the Thai food business for over 35 years. Isaiah and Chris both grew up in the kitchens of Thai restaurants all over Metro Detroit and in 2010, they decided it was finally time to create something unique.

September 9th 2010 - The Beginning

Khom Fai opened in September of 2010 and slowly built up its reputation for extraordinary guest service as well as award winning, fresh food and exotic flavors. After earning 7 Hour Detroit awards for best Thai, the tiny, 30 seat restaurant was filled every night with the laughter and conversation of guests eager to leave their worries and responsibilities at the door, for at least a couple hours.

January 2nd, 2020 - The Evolution

The 3,000 sq. foot expansion in Macomb Township would become the new flagship location for Khom Fai. The sprawling space and high ceilings are more suited for a night on the town or impressive client business dinner. Guests can enjoy one of our signature craft cocktails, a glass of wine or something from our extensive Japanese and American whiskey lists. The new 85 seat building has allowed Chef Isaiah and his crew to welcome new fans as well veterans of Thai food alike.
